Although Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PMHDs) affect an estimated 800,000
new parents each year, the topic of mental health can be a mystery to many. PSI
wants to change the story by sharing YOUR story and breaking the silence about
PMH Disorders.
“The stress and mental health challenges faced by parents — just like loneliness,
workplace well-being and the impact of social media on youth mental health —
aren’t always visible, but they can take a steep toll. It’s time to recognize they
constitute a serious public health concern for our country. Parents who feel pushed
to the brink deserve more than platitudes. They need tangible support.” — U.S.
Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy
Perinatal Mental Health Conditions are the highest complication of childbearing –
and often the most overlooked and stigmatized complication.
Studies show that 1 in 5 perinatal individuals may experience perinatal depression or
anxiety. These individuals may also experience other Perinatal Mental Health
conditions like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,
Bipolar, and Postpartum Psychosis.
This giving season, PSI is asking for your help and support.
